VCC Library Privacy Policies

VCC Library is committed to protecting your privacy and personal information.  The Library adheres to VCC College policies for Privacy and Personal Information:

The VCC Library uses the FootfallCam people‑counting system to collect aggregated data on the number of individuals entering and exiting the Library during operating hours. FootfallCam processes video data immediately on the local device and only retains or transmits aggregated people‑count information. No personal information is stored on the device.

Personal information is collected under the authority of Section 26(c) of FIPPA. In limited cases, personal information may be temporarily retained on FootfallCam’s server if FootfallCam or VCC IT Services creates a recording for the purpose of auditing a device’s counting accuracy. Any such recording will be destroyed after the audit is complete. Personal information will not be used or retained for any other purpose.

PERSONAL INFORMATION & PRIVACY IN OUR ILS

VCC Library uses the Evergreen Integrated Library System (ILS) as part of the SITKA community of libraries. Our ILS Evergreen supports a number of library services for our users, such as our searchable Library Catalogue, check-out/in of materials, holds, renewals, and student account management.

As a member of the community of SITKA libraries, we have access to this secure, Canadian-hosted, open-source, fully supported ILS, via the BC Libraries Cooperative. Evergreen works in a shared environment with other SITKA libraries in BC and Canada. As an open-source software, Evergreen’s functions are developed and improved collectively, while being responsive to the specific needs of each individual library.

Evergreen obtains and stores some student information (e.g. first name, last name, student number, email address) from the College’s student information system. This information is used by VCC Library only, and is not available to other SITKA libraries. If users would like to access the services of another SITKA library, the user will be asked for consent before any personal information is shared.
