Loan Periods, Limits and Fines

Library users are responsible for all materials borrowed on their card and for any charges on items that are overdue, lost or damaged.  Courtesy email notices will be sent to their VCC email address—or registered email account—two days before the due date, and follow-up notices will be sent once the borrowed items are overdue. Library users should check their email regularly and read correspondence from the Library.

Lost and Damaged Items

Library users are responsible for materials that are not returned or become damaged.  For any lost or damaged item, the following charges apply:

  • the cost of replacing the item
  • if the lost and paid item is returned within one year, the cost of the item (not processing fee) will be refunded. If it was paid by debit or credit, a receipt must be presented.

Alumni / Community Borrowers

A Community Borrowers’ card can be purchased at the Library Service Desk for $25 and is valid for one year.  A card will be issued upon presentation of appropriate ID and proof of address (or address verification for Alumni). Loan limits for Community Borrowers are 5 items, 4 week loan, with 1 renewal.

The following groups are eligible for a free Community Borrowers’ card:

  • Retired VCC employees – proof of former employee status is required (e.g. a letter from Human Resources or Department Head)
  • Other BC post-secondary students and employees must present a valid institutional student/faculty ID card, with some proof of current registration or employment
  • Waitlist students – proof of waitlist status
