How do I borrow library materials?   | top
If you are registered in a Distance Education course, place a request for books, kits and videos/DVDs by following these steps:
    • Go to the VCC Catalogue.
    • Login to your library account using your student ID and password. For help signing into your library account, please see our myVCC help pages.
Note: While logged into your library account, please take a moment to confirm your mailing address and make any necessary changes.
    • Once you have successfully logged in, search for the material you want to request.
    • Click the Request Any Copy button to place your request.
Note: when you find an item you want to borrow, its availability will be listed at the top of the record. If an item is unavailable, you can still place a request and you will be added to the request queue for this item.
    • You will be prompted to enter a user ID and a pickup location. Your user ID is your Student ID Number (e.g., 000345679).
    • Select a pickup location from the drop down list.
    • A Ship to Me option will appear at the bottom of the drop down list. If you cannot come to the library in person, you can select Ship to Me.
Note: If the "Ship to Me" option does not appear in the list, there are two possible reasons:
        • You did not login to your account before you began your search; or
        • You appear in our system as a regular student rather than a Distance Learner. If this is the case, make sure you use the following link for the catalogue: VCC Catalogue with Shipping Option.
    • Repeat steps 3 to 5 to search for and request any additional materials you would like.
    • Once you have finished placing your request(s), you can on click the My Account Button link to review your Requested Items list.

      From here, you can
      • See your Place in Queue. If you are number 1 in the queue, you will get the next available copy. If you are further now the list, you will have to wait until previous requests are filled.
Note: If your request does not seem to be moving up the queue, feel free to contact the library. The item you requested may be missing from the collection or long overdue.
      • Cancel items from the list if you no longer need them.
If you are not registered in a Distance Education course but cannot come into campus, please use this special link to the catalogue to enable the shipping option: VCC Catalogue with Shipping Option. Using the catalogue link from the library homepage will not give you this option.
If you are having trouble logging in and making requests through the VCC Catalogue, you can email requests to a VCC librarian using Ask Us. All email requests must include:
      • Your name.
      • Your full mailing address, telephone number and e-mail address (if available).
