Loan Periods, Limits and Fines

Library users are responsible for all materials borrowed on their card and for any charges on items that are overdue, lost or damaged.  Courtesy email notices will be sent to their VCC email address—or registered email account—two days before the due date, and follow-up notices will be sent once the borrowed items are overdue. Library users should check their email regularly and read correspondence from the Library.

Library privileges will be blocked if outstanding charges are $10 or more. Current employees are not charged overdue fines but are responsible for lost and damaged materials.

Overdue Fines

The Library does not charge overdue fines except for these types of resources:

1. Course Reserves (2 hour, Overnight, and 1 week loans). The fine is $1 per hour for 2 hour/Overnight loans, and $1 per day for 1 week loans.

2. Laptops and Tablets. The fine is $5 per day.

3. Items that have been requested by another user. The fine is $1 per day if you do not bring the item back by the original or recalled due date.

Lost and Damaged Items

Library users are responsible for materials that are not returned or become damaged.  For any lost or damaged item, the following charges apply:

  • the cost of replacing the item, and
  • a $20 processing fee
